5 children die in Laguna after electrocution

MANILA, Philippines — Five children died after being electrocuted in Laguna province late Tuesday, the provincial police chief said on Wednesday.

At around 5 p.m., the children, with ages ranging from four to seven, were playing in a rice field near a creek in Mojon village, Pila town when one of them touched a live electrical wire, according to Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador.

The other children tried to help but they were also electrocuted, Labador said.

The victims were identified as John Carlo Sedan, 7, Angel Joy Lavares, 4, Samuel Latigo, 4, John Alvin Alberto, 7, and John Lorence Alberto, 6.

They were rushed to the Rosauro Family clinic but were declared dead on arrival.
