Three suspected members of NPA arrested in Laguna
Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna: Three suspected members of New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested by the security forces at a checkpoint in Lumban town, Laguna, police said Saturday.
Chief Supt. Rolando Añonuevo, regional police director for Southern Tagalog, identified the suspects as Ruelito Soriano Sr. and Nolan Ramos, both residents of Laguna, and Mariano Julongbayan, resident of Batangas province.
Añonuevo said Julongbayan and Ramos were suspected high-ranking officials of the NPA’s Komiteng Pamprobinsya (provincial committee) based on Southern Tagalog.
The three were arrested on board a Kia Vesta van by the joint police and military personnel during a Commission on Elections checkpoint at the highway in Barangay Lewin, Lumban town, on Wednesday.
Seized from the suspects were a three-kilo anti-personnel explosive with two blasting caps, a 6-kilo anti-personnel explosive with four blasting caps, a fragmentation grenade and a black belt bag containing P200,000.
Suspects are now detained at the Headquarters of 1st IB Infantry Division Philippine Army in Laguna. Appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspects.
